Ground Broken on Tennis Center
Phase One to Include 12 Lighted Courts
April 29, 2000-- Ground-breaking for the Oak Creek Tennis Center and pavilion took place today at Marsh Lane and Oak Creek Boulevard marking the official beginning of construction on the long awaited facility.
"The Parks and Recreation Department is very happy to get this facility designed and on its way," said department director Scott Whitaker. "And we have been able to combine Phase I and Phase II into a single project, which shortens construction time."
Instead of building eight courts and a pro shop, then building four additional courts, the new plans call for all 12 courts and the pro shop to be built at the same time.
The goal to complete the project, which has been on Carrollton's books for many years, is by early December, Whitaker said.
The 53-acre site will be lighted and will include ample parking, concession area, restrooms and fountains.

Mayor Milburn Gravley and other dignitaries from the City Council, Parks & Recreation department, and Carrollton Tennis Association were among the first to turn shovels of dirt.
According to Whitaker, construction on the center could start as early as next week.
