The Carrollton Tennis Association Leagues

Sign-up

There are five 7-week sessions per year - see calendar for dates and times. Players returning to the same league may sign up with their captains or with the League Directors up to two weeks before league play begins. At that time, all leagues are filled on a "first come, first play" basis. To register, call or e-mail the appropriate League Director listed on the Officers page.

Dues and Fees

CTA annual membership is $15.00.  Leagues played on city satellite courts are $16.00 each; Oak Creek Tennis Center leagues (if registering through CTA) are $24.00 each.

Beginning Spring, 2006, there will be a $5.00 late charge assessed for any dues or fees not paid by the second week of league play.

Membership dues helps to defray the cost of mailings, literature, and socials. Dues are paid in full once per calendar year and may not be pro- rated.

A League consists of a group of doubles, mixed doubles, or singles. Once the annual membership dues and city fees are paid, one may sign up for as many leagues that are available for each league throughout the calendar year.

Schedules

Schedules for single leagues will be available from the Men or Women’s League Director on the 2nd Thursday of the week following sign-up (Thursday before the league starts). Please collect your schedules so that you have access to all telephone numbers and are aware of when you will be playing. Schedules for the Progressive Leagues will be provided by the team captains.
Progressive Leagues

Each week, you play a total of 24 games (8 with each person in your foursome). Your score is the number of games you win. The first time you use a sub your score is 12, and each time thereafter it is 10. If you have a sub more than once in a league session you are ineligible for an award. If you fail to show up for a match your score is 0 and you are ineligible for an award. If you know you will be out on a particular week, it is your responsibility to find a sub to take your place. You must tell the sub where and when he/she is supposed to play, and give him/her your captain’s name and telephone number. Inform your captain of the name and number of your sub. Try to arrange your sub as soon as possible as people are often unable to play on short notice. Please arrive on time so play can start promptly, as usually other leagues are scheduled to play later on the same courts.

The leagues are scheduled so that you play about one match per week. On the schedule, the player with an “*” is responsible for making the 1st call and supplying the balls. You get one point for each set won. It is possible to have a winner who lost several matches but received the most points because they played all their matches. The tie breaker is head-to-head. If there is still a tie, each player will be awarded a prize for that place. Problems arise when people delay scheduling matches until the end of the league.
Rainouts

We have allowed an extra week at the end of each session for rainouts. It is our experience that rain can stop play more than once during each league. We suggest you make up matches before the rainout week.
Winning

The first and second place finishers in each league are offered the opportunity to move up to the next rated league. If a player scores less than 63 points during a Progressive League (average of 9 points per week) he/she should move down to the lower lever. In Singles, the player who finished last and second to last should move down. If a player is in two leagues of different levels, he/she may win a prize in the lower level league. If a player wins the upper level, he/she cannot win the lower level in the same session.

First and Second place winners are awarded gift certificates.  First place receives $20; Second place receives $15.  After 90 days, we are not responsible for prizes that have not been redeemed.

Our purpose is to promote tennis at all levels in Carrollton and we want to make the leagues run as smoothly as possible. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for improvements or encounter any problems. Thank you for being a part of our Association, and enjoy the tennis.
